〜によって (by / depending on / because of)
によって marks the means, the cause, or “it depends on X”. In passive sentences it can mark the agent, like English “by”.
この絵はピカソによって描かれました。
This painting was painted by Picasso. (agent)
地震によって電車が止まりました。
The trains stopped because of the earthquake. (cause)
人によって考え方が違います。
Ideas differ depending on the person.
により is a more written variant. よると is “according to (a source)”, a different pattern.
