~ている (Continuous/Habitual in Formal Context)

Pattern: [Verb て] + いる

In formal writing, often written as ~ており or ~ておる

  • 現在、私たちは様々さまざまなプロジェクトに取り組んでおります。 - "Currently, we are working on various projects."
  • 状況じょうきょう改善かいぜんしており、希望きぼうが見えています。 - "The situation is improving, and hope is emerging."

~だけ / ~ばかり (Only/Merely)

~だけ (Only - straightforward):
  • これだけの成果せいかを上げるのに、大変たいへん努力どりょくが必要でした。 - "It took enormous effort to achieve only this much result."
~ばかり (Only/Merely - with emphasis):
  • 失敗ばかりしていました。 - "I was doing nothing but failing."

~ため / ~として (For the Sake Of / As)

~ため (For / For the sake of):
  • 環境かんきょうぜんのため、我々われわれ一致団結いっちだんけつしました。 - "For the sake of environmental conservation, we united."
~として (In the capacity of / As):
  • リーダーりーだーとして、責任せきにんある決定けつていを下します。 - "As a leader, I make responsible decisions."
